About Sophie
Sophie Carpenter is a New York-based artist dedicated to the constant amelioration of the arts industry. A zealous young singer with an aptitude for singing cross-genre, a skilled librettist and composer, and a passionate stage manager, she finds herself home in a plethora of theatrical roles.
Hailing from San Francisco, California, she fell in love with the performing arts in kindergarten, while watching an opera performed by the San Francisco Opera Guild. From there, she was determined to be a performer herself.
She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in voice from Carnegie Mellon University and her Master of Music in voice from the Longy School of Music of Bard.

For the past few years she has worked as a professional singer and stage manager, with companies such as MassOpera, Metropolitan Chorale of Brookline, Boston POPS, Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, Moonbox Productions and Boston Opera Collaborative.
Sophie is the co-founder and Executive Director of Ted and Togo Productions, a new production company dedicated to providing opportunities to young artists and performing/producing works by marginalized and underrepresented artists.

She, alongside Artistic Director Shambhavi Mishra, wrote their first opera, Angels of the House, which was produced in Spring 2019 and premiered in June 2021. Raising over $300 in donations, the pair donated the entirety of their profits to the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. Since then, they have dedicated a portion of their ticket sales to supporting local women's groups.

This show was featured as a top six Carnegie Mellon student school project, presenting at the Council of Deans and received the highest grant from the Frank-Ratchye Studio for Creative Inquiry, and full financial support from the College of Fine Arts.
Sophie premiered two original micro operas in the Fall of 2024, alongside two other original operas written by Shambhavi, for a combined evening entitled Dreams, Queens & Everything in Between... This performance raised over $300 that was donated to the Women's Lunch Place of Boston, a dedicated daytime shelter and advocacy center for women.

Dreams, Queens & Everything in Between... also received the Boston Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture's Opportunity Fund, a huge aid in the success of an incredible show.

As a performer, Sophie just completed a run of Annie with Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, NY in which she played Mrs.Pugh, Perkins and Sophie the Kettle. She has also recently performed in New York City at the Reverie Room and Don't Tell Mama.

In December 2025 she will take the stage as a performer for the first time with Ted & Togo Productions in the show Thaw Me Out Later.
In her free time, Sophie enjoys exploring the city and everything it has to offer, finding new coffee shops, reading, writing her new book Scintilla, and training for her upcoming half-marathon!
